What GenAI topics you should focus in 2025 ?

It’s already a few days in 2025 and the Generative AI storm looks unstoppable. We had quite some blast in 2024 with LLMs, Frameworks, mechanisms, etc releasing at a tracer bullet speed.

So what to expect in 2025?

1. Small Sized LLMs

Forget the massive models that eat up all your GPU power. We’re moving toward smaller, more efficient language models that still pack a punch. These leaner models are easier to deploy, cheaper to run, and perfect for edge devices. Think chatbots and personal assistants running smoothly on your phone without frying the battery.

Microsoft already released phi-4 in the start of 2025

2. AI Agents & Multi-Agent Orchestration

Picture this: a bunch of AI agents working together like a well-oiled machine, each handling a specific part of a complex task. Multi-agent orchestration is becoming a big deal, where multiple AI systems collaborate to get stuff done — from automating business workflows to organizing your messy inbox. Basically, AI is getting better at teamwork.

Towards the end of the year 2024, almost all big tech firms be it OpenAI, Microsoft (3 frameworks), AWS, etc have released some sort of Multi-Agent Orchestration framework indicating the same. Even HuggingFace started the year with “smolagents”, a library to create agents easily.

3. LLM Deployment & MLOps

LLM deployment is no longer about just slapping a model on a server and hoping it works. MLOps is taking over, making sure models are properly monitored, updated, and fine-tuned post-deployment. In 2025, expect smoother pipelines and more robust systems that don’t crash at the first sign of weird input.

Try reading about deployment stuff as well if you wish to stay relevant !

4. New Architectures

We’re not sticking with the same old transformer models forever. New architectures are on the way — hybrid models, sparsely activated networks, and stuff that borrows from neuroscience. These will make AI faster, more accurate, and capable of doing things we haven’t even thought of yet.

We’ve already got papers (and some models) on Hymba, Mamba, Byte Latent Transformers and Large Concept Models (by Meta). Models based on these architectures might soon be getting launched !

5. Improved Hardware

Better AI models need better hardware. We’ll see more specialized AI chips, faster GPUs, and even neuromorphic computing (hardware that mimics the brain). This means faster model training, real-time inference on devices, and less energy consumption. Oh, and maybe cheaper cloud bills too!

NVIDIA already started the year with releasing the RTX 50 series alongside Jetson Orin Nano late in 2024.

6. Physical AI

AI is stepping out of the digital world and into the real one. Physical AI means robots and smart devices that can adapt to their environment and interact with humans in natural ways. Think AI-powered home assistants, self-driving cars that actually work, and robots that can navigate complex spaces without bumping into everything.

NVIDIA cosmos world indicate this to be a important domain

7. Benchmarking Becomes Obsolete

Benchmarks have been the holy grail for measuring AI performance, but they’re starting to lose their relevance. Why? Real-world tasks are way more complex than static benchmarks. In 2025, we’ll likely focus more on real-world deployments and less on who scored higher on some arbitrary benchmark.

8. Social Media Full of AI Avatars

Get ready for an internet flooded with AI-generated personas. From influencers to customer service reps, AI avatars will take over social media. They’ll look real, talk real, and maybe even argue better than your friends. Whether it’s creepy or cool — that’s up to you.

You might have heard of Meta’s Facebook and Instagrame launched some of these avatars recently.

You may wish to try content creation. It’s easier then ever

9. Mandatory AI Regulation and Audits

Governments and industries might push for stricter regulations, including mandatory AI audits to ensure models are safe, unbiased, and ethical. Companies may even need certifications before deploying AI.

LLM evaluations and ethics will be a key topic

10. Edge AI

Edge AI is about bringing the power of AI closer to where the data is generated — on devices like smartphones, cameras, and IoT gadgets. This means faster decision-making, improved privacy (since data doesn’t need to be sent to the cloud), and lower latency. In 2025, expect smarter edge devices that can process complex tasks locally, enabling things like real-time language translation, advanced AR experiences, and autonomous drones.

This will be truly revolutionary giving access to AI to everyone on the planet

11. Would AGI be possible? I don’t think so

Everyone’s talking about Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), but let’s be real — we’re not there yet. Sure, AI is getting smarter, but AGI is a whole different ball game. We’re talking about machines that can reason, understand, and adapt like humans. 2025? Nah, probably not.

Talking technically, for any LLM to achieve AGI fully, it needs to pass all the benchmarks (every single one) and reach a reasonable score. Not possible for now !

Most importantly, expect mayhem in job market, especially the ones that

Require a computer / No physical involvement

Heavily repeated

More towards knowledge gathering.

IT and Education sector maytake the biggest

Concluding,

2025 is here, and with it comes a whole new wave of exciting developments in Generative AI. From leaner models and smarter AI agents to edge AI and groundbreaking new architectures, there’s a lot to keep an eye on. Whether you’re diving into MLOps, experimenting with physical AI, or exploring the latest frameworks, staying on top of these trends will be key to staying relevant. And while AGI might still be a distant dream, the advancements in specialized AI systems and real-world deployments will keep the field buzzing with innovation. Buckle up — it’s going to be an exhilarating year!

Hope we all keep our jobs for one more year !!
